Michael Sontag’s autumn / winter collection is not presented on the runway, but in a live installation at “Roemischer Hof”, making important details, materials, silhouettes and structures accessible to the audience.
The presented outfits are the heart of the coming season, the essential idea for the Fall / Winter 11/12 collection.
A major focus is on structures, beginning with the collection itself, to the structure of the individual items of clothing and the surface characteristics of the materials. The collection includes symmetrically or asymmetrically ornamented knitwear, rough-woven raw silk and a double weave of soft jersey inside and wool crepe outside.
A special detail at the waist of the wide trousers are welt pockets that turn into belt loops. Natural and soft materials convey a sense of comfort and warmth. Lime green and egg yolk accents enrich a quiet palette of colours ranging from midnight blue and forest green to burgundy and cream.
The designer’s work is always intuitive and playful. Generally he first determinates the silhouette and later adds the colors and materials, designing directly on the dress form without a prior sketch. The language of Michael Sontag's designs is the result of his unusual working methods and his refined personal aesthetics.
