The essence of fifties couture, rewritten in the minimalist hand of the nineties to satisfy the desires of today. For Spring / Summer 2010, Serge Cajfinger has come up with a radical new vision in which Paule Ka classics lend themselves to experimentation in every form. Volumes honed to perfection, where opulent fabrics challenge strict lines. Hitchcockian heroines, 2010-style.
Perfection in style by fashion icon, Kirsten Owen, tens years after her first collaboration with Paule Ka. An Aristopunk, she transcends genres, somewhere between post-grunge irreverence and an innate sense of elegance. A rich palette of the colours of precious gems: citrine, amethyst, emerald and ruby. Graphic black-and-white confronts the essential sensuality of flesh-tone.
Neo-baroque couture. Drapes and asymmetry magnify the finest of fabrics. This season’s highlight: a summer coat ready to take on any role with volume and deconstruction. Sketches tell the story of the season in racy lines: graphic, in fun prints for a dress or top in flesh-coloured organza; suggested, in body-hugging leather, cut to the bone.Anatomic chic. Structures laid bare in a combination of transparency and layers. Sculptured black organza over lingerie and flesh-coloured jersey.Abstract embroidery on the move devouring the fabric of a dress and box jacket.Trompe l’œil. Surprise in the form of skirt in technical poplin and satin-backed crepe. A contrast of the simplest and most sophisticated fabrics. Bow. A Paule Ka symbol: the bow - every which way but loose.
ACCESSORIES.
Archishoes at the summit, with hollow platform soles in beige and rubber and primary colours shaken up by the naked hint of beige. Structure vanishes in a graphic extension of the silhouette.
The reinvention of a classic with the Pillow bag, quilted like a cushion. It comes in soft leather or transparent organza, medium or large, with a removable strap in perforated leather and a clutchbag version with XXL chain. And a Paule Ka premiere: crazy jewellery marrying couture tradition and futuristic design. Nightingale or owl… rock crystal and flocked metal enchant this imaginary bestiary.
A moment of fun in the form of a hybrid hat, halfway between a sailor’s hat and an English top hat.
The sensual gesture of Gilda gloves – the caress of satin-silk on a skin-tight fishnet backing.
